Baltic Sea Day – What is it?
Baltic Sea Day, launched and coordinated by the John Nurminen Foundation, is celebrated every year on the last Thursday of August with various events and activities. The aim of the theme day is to highlight important maritime topics and to inspire people to take concrete actions for the benefit of the Baltic Sea. The day celebrates the sea’s diversity and immeasurable value. In addition to celebration, the goal is to increase knowledge about the sea’s nature, culture, and history. In 2025, Baltic Sea Day will be held on August 28.
Laguuni is once again part of Baltic Sea Day!
This year, Itämeri Plogging Ry, in cooperation with Laguuni Watersports Center, is organizing a diverse event in Keilaniemi, Espoo! We will gather to celebrate the Baltic Sea with a mix of fun water activities and important Baltic Sea protection work.
Join us in collecting trash from the Baltic Sea by kayak or SUP board, or hop on a RIB boat for a trip to nearby islands for a cleanup adventure. As a new feature, we will also organize shoreline cleanups combined with water park fun – let’s clean the coast together and then jump into the floating water park on the Baltic Sea!
The event is open to everyone and cleanup activities are free of charge. Please note, however, that all water activities require advance registration. The booking calendar will open on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at itameri.info.
During the evening you can also:
Taste Baltic Sea–themed treats from Blägä
Recycle your trash at NOW’s recycling station
Enjoy live music on the pier
Learn more about the Baltic Sea and grab a free pocket ashtray
Relax in the sauna (paid)
Even if you don’t join a cleanup trip this time, it’s worth coming to enjoy the atmosphere – the vibe and the sea will do the rest. 🙂
